Curriculum & Assessments
At Al-Madinah Elementary School, we nurture each child’s natural love of learning through caring teachers, a supportive environment, and a stimulating curriculum. Our program is fully aligned with the rigorous New York State Common Core Standards, which provide a clear set of expectations for what students should learn at every grade level. This ensures that every child is not only on track for college and career readiness but is also challenged to move beyond basic competency and toward excellence.
We are committed to developing higher-order thinking skills, equipping students with the creativity, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability they need for success in the 21st century. Our goal is to help students gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
In our school, curriculum quality and student growth are ongoing priorities. Because learning expectations evolve and instructional materials must remain current, we continuously monitor, assess, and refine our approach. Teachers use a variety of assessments and performance-based learning tools to inform instruction and meet the needs of every learner. By emphasizing a standards-based curriculum, combined with meaningful assessments, we ensure that classroom instruction is purposeful, dynamic, and responsive to student growth.

STUDENT EVALUATION POLICY
There are four marking periods in the year. Each marking period is approximately 10 weeks long. Grades are calculated at the end of each marking period. Each marking period constitutes 25% of the final grade. The final grade is the average of four marking periods.
To ensure that our students are “college and career ready,” our Elementary School Grading Policy is aligned to meet the rigorous expectations of the New York State Common Core Learning Standards.
For academic subjects, the marking period is calculated as follows:

K-5 Science and Social Studies

Once the numeric grade is calculated, it is converted to the New York State Performance Standards Levels.
Non-academic subjects (Phys. Ed., Art, and homeroom criteria) are graded as follows:

G = Good
