review sheet

This is the review sheet for the Quiz on Topic 2. The File is attached here.    The Quiz is on Friday November , 9

                          Please Bring Graphing Papers

It consist of plotting points on the coordinate plane , Finding the Distance from one point to another , finding the Perimeter  and Area of a shape on the coordinate plane.

The Quiz will consist of only 5 questions. The review sheet has extra practice problem. The type of questions on the review sheet is similar to the Quiz.

Vocabulary : ( I will not test you on the vocabulary words but you should know them since we covered them in this chapter)
1 - Integers - A whole number; a number that is not a fraction.
opposites - example  a positive number is the opposite of a negative number. (page 66)

2- rational number -Any number that can be rewritten as a simple fraction is a rational number. This means that natural numbers, whole numbers and integers, like 5, are all part of the set of rational numbers as well because they can be written as fractions, as are mixed numbers like 1 ½. (Page 72)

3 - absolute value  -  the absolute value of a number is its distance from 0 on the number line. Distance is always positive.  ( page 78)

4- coordinate plane -It is formed by a horizontal number line, called the x-axis, and a vertical number line, called the y-axis. The two axes intersect at a point called the origin. ( page 86)

5- ordered pair - an ordered pair ( X, Y ) of numbers gives the coordinates that locate a point relative to each axis.  ( page 86 )

6- origin -  the origin is a point on the coordinate plane where the Y - axis and X- axis meet at a right angle . That point is (0,0) . ( page 86 )

7- quadrant -  The Coordinate plane is divided in to four Quadrants.

8- x- axis : The X- axis is the horizontal number line on the coordinate plane, it consist of positive and negative numbers. (page 102)

9- y-axis : The y - axis is the vertical number line on the coordinate plane , it consist of positive and negative numbers. (page 102).

Rules for plotting coordinates : ( x , y )  on ( page 86 under Example 1 )

Rules for finding the distance (Page 102)  : point A ( 3 , 6 )  ,   B ( 2 , 6) , C ( 3, -5 ) , D ( 2 , -5)

{ If Both numbers have the same sign you must Subtract ,
If the numbers have different sign you must Add}

Example using Points A , B , C, D

1- If you are trying to find the horizontal distance use the X Coordinate for both points A and B, and find the absolute value .   I 3 I - I 2 I = 3 - 2 = 1 units

2 -If you are trying to find the vertical distance use the Y coordinate for both points A and C , Find the absolute value.    I 6 I + I - 5 I = 6 + 5 = 11 units
