Sister Aishah's 6th Grade Class Assignments

END OF THE YEAR PROJECT!!!!!!!

 

Students will be working on an end of the year project. The project will be about their own culture/ the history of their culture/country. Students will research the county that they're from, they will research the cultural clothing, food, activities, and any brief history they would like to include about their country. 

Students will write 5 paragraphs (intro, 3 body paragraphs and conclusion) about their culture/history. 

Students will also present their project to the class. They should bring in a cultural meal or a cultural outfit for the presentation. 

UPDATE ON PROJECT: 

 

The essay with be 3 paragraphs typed on your culture/history of your country. It is due on Monday! Do research and ask your parents. 

 

Extra Credit: bring in a dish or a cultural outfit and present to class. 

Plays are due tomorrow! Make sure you have your lines memorized, scripts typed up, costumes and props. REMEMBER this is worth half your grade. We have been working on this for a few weeks now and there are no excuses for you not to be prepared tomorrow. You will be grades on the research you did, your props, your memorization/acting, and group work. 

Students will continue working on their Christopher Columbus plays. The final play will be due and preformed on Tuesday. You will need to have a copy of the script for everyone in your group and a copy of the script for me. You will be working on the script during class. Make sure you plan out costumes and memorize your lines. 

Play on Christopher Columbus 

 

You will be creating a play about Christopher Columbus coming to America. 

You will include the following:

 

* His journey. What did he see when he came to America 

* What did the Native Americans think when they saw Christopher Columbus 

* Explain how things were in the beginning and how's things ended 

* Lead up to the terrible things Christopher Columbus did to the Native Americans 

* Make sure you explain what Christopher Columbus intentions were for coming to America 

* It needs to be historically accurate and make sense !!

 

Find research for your play. Please DO NOT use Wikipedia, this is NOT a reliable website. You need to summarize the research you found on Christopher Columbus and the Native Americans. You can watch videos on youtube. I will post one on my page. Please make sure you summarize whatever you read/saw, bring in the research and include where you got the research from. 

 

YouTube a video of the Europeans or Christopher Columbus coming to the americas. Try to find a video which speaks about how the indigenous (native Americans) felt and what the Europeans were thinking. Write down a summary of the video and your thoughts on it. We will discuss it tomorrow in class. 

Quiz on Thursday 5/7/15 

 

Topic: Mayan, Aztec and Incas. Make sure you study the religion, culture and way of life. 

****Update on foldables for early America ****

 

Due to a change in the schedule the foldables are due on Thursday (5/7/15).  Since the marking period is ending soon I will not accept them past Thursday, you have had more than 2 weeks to do them.

If you owe me any work (foldables, essay, poems) the last day you can give it in will be this Thursday. The marking period is ending on Friday so I will not accept any late work past Thursday. If you have any work missing I have personally spoken to you and you know who you are. Time to be responsible!

Complete Foldables assignment page 569. 

 

Please follow directions carefully. You need to include the main idea for each section  which is found on page 569. You also need to have supporting details ( details that support the main idea) this shows me that you read the section and understand it. You should be doing one section per night. For example today 4/28 we finished section one. You should do your foldable tab for section 1. The whole thing is due on Monday. You should also add design and pictures. 

 

If due dates change I will let you know but please work on this every night. 

 

 

Foldables section 2, remember to include main idea and supporting details. The supporting details need to be cited from the textbook or in your own words. 

Finish in class essay assignment. 

Tonight for homework you will need to finish your in class essays. The essay topic is on page 581 question number 6. You have to finish reading section 1 chapter 16 and compare and contrast the South American civilization with the mesoamerican civilization. The short  essay should be  3 paragraphs: intro, body, conclusion.  Written on looseleaf or typed up. 

No homework this week due to state exams. 

Foldables on Japan are due. 

 

Make sure you include the main idea with supporting details (in your own words) you will not get complete credit if it is not in your own words. 

 

You should also decorate the map and add images (flag of japan, etc)

Newspaper article project 

 

Imagine you were a witness to Mansa Musas Hajj pilgrimage. Write a newspaper article describing the pilgrimage (Hajj). 

 

Make sure you include:

 

3 paragraphs explaining the journey 

An image/picture 

Title of article 

Name of newspaper 

Be CREATIVE 

On computer paper, make it look old (burn it, use coffee, tea bags etc) 

Due on Thursday !

you will read an article and answer questions based on the article. 

Add more information to your data disks based on what we learned in class. 

Research Mansa Musa. Bring in some interesting information you found on him. We will discuss it in class. 

Fill out foldables section "Africa's Government and Religion" 

Remember to write down three questions and answer them DO NOT WRITE DOWN THE MAIN IDEAS.

Read page 359-360 look at Oregon country map and answer the following questions :

 

1. Near which city did settlers enter Mexican territory ?

2. Which mountains did settlers have to cross while on the trail? 

Foldables section "The rise of African civilizations" 

 

As you read about the rise of civilizations of Africa, write down three important questions about the section then write an answer to each question. 

 

The questions should be based on ch 13. Section 1 "The rise of African civilizations" 

Create foldable on page 442.  (ON COMPUTER PAPER)!Whoever decorates and makes it the most creative will receive extra credit. (Draw the African continent, add color, designs etc)

Skim through chapter 12 "medieval Africa" look at images, headings, main ideas, maps and so on. Create a KWL chart "things I know" "things I want to learn" "things I learned" fill out the first two columns of chart with at least 5 things you know and what to learn. 

Crossword Puzzle Project

 

 

 

1. 10 vocabulary words from chapter 12. Example: Porcelien (you cannot use        

     names) 

2. Defenition of each word

3. Word bank with the definition NOT THE WORD! (down and across )

4. It needs to be on a computer paper and should include images or drawings of at

     least 4 of the vocabulary words of your choice 

5. Needs to be neat, nice and attractive. 

 

As a class we will be able to play the crossword puzzles!!

 

Grading:

 

30% - Neatness and creativity 

20%- Following every single direction

50%- Understanding of the vocabulary words with the definition

Re-read the section we went over in class (section two). Fill out the section "China Reunites" in your foldables. 

Create the foldables on page 405.

Look at page 400-401 in your textbook. Examine the timeline that appears on the page as well as the map on page 401. Answer the following questions: 1. Which continents are we going to be studying in this unit? (look at the map for this question!) 2. What do you think is the most important achievement in the timeline on page 400?

2. The term" Arabesque" art work and the term "Dawah"

3. Muslim inventions (coffee, university, flying machine, algebra, etc)

4. Masjid architecture (domes, minarets and so on) 

 

The test will include 10 short answer questions.
